Lesson 01

Lesson length 60 minutes

Module or Unit Get Active

Lesson Intention

In this lesson, students are learning to:

  1. Examine physiological responses from the body during exercise

  2. Participate in different fitness routines/exercises

Personal Objectives

My objectives for my professional development are:

  1. Confidence

  2. Classroom management

  3. Voice control

Success Criteria

Students who are achieving the learning intention will be able to:

  1. State how heart rate responds to exercise

  2. Participate in various fitness activities

Entry Assessment

This lesson is based on the students having the following prior knowledge

Students are likely to understand the concept quite easily, they will have experienced physiological responses to exercise throughout their life and have researched or asked why their body responds in such a way.

Equipment and resources required

Cones

whistle

1. Introductory Activities

Introduce myself

Learning intention (what we’re doing today)

Measure resting heart rate (elicit)

Explain basic physiological responses during exercise.

why does it do this? (also eliciting how much they know)

Examining physical responses to exercise

Elicit student’s knowledge on measuring heart rate firstly. Elicit how many or few knew how to do this through their actions. This inform how much basic knowledge they had on the topic.

Look for pulse, on hand and on neck

Heart rate increases to meet with demand of the exercise; supplies oxygenated blood to working muscles

Depending on how quickly they responded to these exercises which impact the tempo, or pace of the lesson

2. Content Development

Stretching explain (whilst stretching)

dynamic

static

Explain safety

Put these theories to test

traffic tag

Gradually increase the intensity, measure heart rate:

Relay sprints

What type of stretching is this?

What type of stretching is this?

in a circle high knees, jumping, rotating waist, one leg hopping.

Wet ground, can slip and hurt yourself.

With a partner situate yourself within the square if you get tagged then you have to do a 360 degree turn, once you do this you chase after your partner.

walking

fast walking

running

Ask what they think their heart rate would likely be

Sprint to one end, sprint back and tag a partner. partner sprints there and back also.

Progress this with different movements

burpees, star jumps, pushups, mountain climbers, sit ups etc.

3. Lesson Closure

Relate back to the learning intention how their body responds to different intensities.

Heart rate increase: a response to the demand of exercise. More oxygenated blood is distributed to working muscles. If you are more fit the rise in heart rate will decrease.

 Lesson 02

Lesson length: 60 Minutes

Module or Unit Get Active

Entry Assessment

This lesson is based on the students having the following prior knowledge

Equipment and resources required

Whistle

Team I.D

Frisbee

Cones

1. Introductory Activities

Students will be changing into p.e uniform

Briefly discuss the previous lesson

Gather in a circle do fitness movements

The number game.

Bump tag

What did we talk about last week?

Responses to exercise

Heart rate

Resting heart rate

Sweat

Fatigue

Lactic acid

Dynamic stretching

Star jumps

pushups

High knees

burpees

squats

A number is called, once this is called students will gather in accordance to that number.

Essentially a game of Tag, students will be linked up via arms. 1 player will be chasing, 1 player will be running

2. Content Development

Get familiar with the frisbee in partners pass 10x successfully

Ultimate Frisbee

What can we expect during the game of ultimate frisbee

Intensity and heart rate will range in this game

3. Lesson Closure

Reiterate maintaining a high heart rate

other physiological responses

aerobic and anaerobic

Sweat

heart rate

lactic acid

fatigue

increased breathing

dynamic stretching

aerobic- requires more oxygen, absence in oxygen will result in the depletion of other energy resources (endurance based) positive, negatives?

Anaerobic- requires little to no oxygen, lactic acid builds quickly. promotes power and strength. positive, negatives? what are some examples?  short lived movement

Lesson 03

Equipment and resources required

Balls; Rugby, netball

Large ball

Cones

Team I.d

1. Introductory Activities

Students will be changing into p.e uniform

Briefly discuss the previous lesson

Introduce L.I

Gather in a circle do fitness movements

Bump tag

Or a variation to this is:

Cyclops tag:

If it rains introduce the possibility of playing Reverse hungry hippo.

What did we talk about last week?

-Responses to exercise

-Heart rate

-Resting heart rate

-Sweat

-Fatigue

-Lactic acid

-Dynamic stretching

Today we’re going to participate in Physical activity; as well as learn about some basic strategies required to improve outcomes within the game.

Trying to get that heart rate up, try to get warm. Get other people from the classroom to choose an exercise

-Squats

-Starjumps

-pushups

-High knees

Essentially a game of Tag, students will be linked up via arms. 1 player will be chasing, 1 player will be running

Students will grab a partner. The objective is to run away whilst their partner attempts to catch them. The catch is that players can only have one eye while ‘chasing’ their partner. once tagged you have to do a 360.

-Why would we implement a rule with only one eye?

-Creates a challenge

-Makes it more difficult than normal tag

-Have to know where you are in space,

requires that they are aware of their surroundings.

A team on each side will target the large ball in attempts to move it. As the ball has commenced movement players will win a point when the ball has crossed the opposite team's zone.

What skills does this game require?

-Accuracy

-Communication

-Strategy

-Possession

-Capitalizing on momentum

-Timing

2. Content Development

10 pass

Capture the flag:

Get the 10x students familiar with the ball. Could be a rugby ball, or a net a ball. The skills and coordination is needed during crucial moments in capture the flag. might get them to play the game and see how they go and then bring up/ ask about the following points.

-moving into space (positioning)

-calling for the ball

-accuracy

-Keeping the ball low and hard; why would we want to do this?

-lower the chance of interception

-have high success passes rather than high risk.

Students will be introduced to capture the flag.

-Who has played this before?

-what kind of strategies could we implement (basic attacking defending, marking).

Make the game less difficult and allowing students to come back in to increase participation levels, constraints as such could change depending on the pacing of the game.

3. Lesson Closure

Although we learnt about about fitness activities such as lifting weights, circuit training cardio etc. This is another alternative to fitness by playing sports or other games that have similar elements. It’s about getting active and having fun at the same time.

-Athletes train and sports people train to excel in specific categories, whether it be endurance (aerobic) or explosive movement (anaerobic)

Power lifting, sprinting etc.
